Senior Teaching Associate in Policy Studies with Quantitative Research Methods (Fixed Term, Full-time Maternity Cover, from 1 September 2016 for up to 12 months)
The School wishes to appoint an enthusiastic and committed social scientist to make a central contribution to the delivery of its undergraduate “with Quantitative Research Methods” degree programmes. The University of Bristol hosts a Q-Step Centre with funding from the Nuffield Foundation, Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) with a remit to address the critical shortage of social sciences undergraduates with quantitative skills training looked for by employers.
The roleholder would be expected to deliver high quality research-informed specialist teaching inputs, lead seminars, convene units, supervise dissertations, undertake personal tutoring and contribute to the School’s organisational and administrative roles as appropriate and commensurate with the role.
The School welcomes applicants with a background in policy studies and with a specialism of using quantitative research methodologies to advance knowledge in the social sciences. The roleholder will also be expected to make a major contribution to our teaching in this area and convene units such as “Segregation and Inequality in Britain” and “Further Quantitative Methods” to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
This post carries no requirement to undertake research, but participation in the research culture of the School, for example through attending research seminars, is encouraged. The School would welcome applications for any suitably qualified and experienced candidates including those from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
The role is available from 1 September 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter, until 31 August 2017.
