The BSA Citizenship Study Group and the ECPR Standing Group on Citizenship are organising a two-day event organised around a series of keynote talks and paper presentations on Political Citizenship and Social Movements at the University of Portsmouth, 27-28 June 2016

They would especially welcome abstract submissions from postgraduate and early career
researchers as well as established researchers. Each speaker will be given 15 minutes to
present their paper and 10 minutes each for questions.

Abstracts should be no more than 250 words and include title, author, affiliation, current
position and contact email. To submit an abstract, please click HERE no later than
Tuesday 1st March 2016.

Registration is free, but delegates must register. Lunch and refreshments will be
provided.

Registration will be open after the decision on abstracts is released.

RHEA Centre of Expertise Gender, Diversity and Intersectionality

RHEA is a multi-disciplinary and interfaculty research group devoted to fundamental and applied research about gender and especially gender inequality and its interactions with other sources of inequality. RHEA affiliates around 30 researchers, including professors,post-docs, pre-docs and freelance researchers from the research teams of POLI (Political Sciences), FILO (Philosophy), JURI (Law), TALK (Language and Literature), MOSI (Mathematics, Operational research, Statistics and Information Systems, applied in human sciences), SCRI (Criminology), the Centre for Ethics and Humanism, SOCI (Sociology) and CLIC (Cultural Studies). RHEA’s present core expertise is in gender equality/diversity policy and politics;women’s (legal) history; and gender, migration and cultural practices.

PhD Scholarships – School of Social Sciences, Nottingham Trent University

We have an outstanding reputation for our commitment to research that shapes lives and society. As part of our continued pledge to invest in research excellence, the School of Social Sciences  will be offering up to 10 fully-funded PhD bursary places.  The scholarships will pay UK / EU fees* and provide a maintenance stipend linked to the RCUK rate (currently £14,057 for academic year 2015/16) for up to three years. The scholarships are due to commence in October 2015.

 

The bursaries are for excellent candidates who intend to work on specific projects; Politics-related projects include:

  • The Human Subject and Attitudes to Nature – Dr Ros Hague
  • A Critical Analysis of the challenges to the transition from State Owned to Private Owned Enterprises in Modernising states – Dr Liam McCarthy
  • A Critical Analysis of Counter-Radicalisation Policy in Europe and/or the Middle East – Dr Chris Baker-Beall
  • The Political Economy of Energy Security and Nuclear Energy Proliferation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) – Dr Imad El-Anis
  • Young people and political (dis)engagement – Professor Matt Henn

*Applications from non-EU students are welcome, but a successful non-EU candidate would be responsible for paying the difference between non-EU and UK/EU fees. (Fees for 2015/16 are £12,300 for non-EU students and £4,052 for UK/EU students)
