Section on ‘Justice on the Move: Space, Place and Contexts for Transitional Justice and Human Rights’– 2020 virtual ECPR General Conference

At this year’s general conference our standing group sponsored the section ‘Justice on the Move: Space, Place and Contexts for Transitional Justice and Human Rights’. We were allocated 5 panels which we organised along the themes of (1) Justice Displaced: an Exploration of Embodied Experiences of Justice; (2) Historical Memory and Conflicts of the Present; (3) Talking Transitions: How Narratives Shape, Move and Defy Notions of Justice; (4) Human Rights and Justice in Contexts of Violence and Authoritarianism; and (5) Justice and Peace.

With a total of 19 papers we saw good levels of participation with audiences of between 14 and 19 per panel. We were particularly pleased to host academics at varied stages of their career, working on varied empirical contexts, and drawing on multiple disciplinary insights in their work. This demonstrates the ongoing interest in our standing group as well as the vibrancy of the intellectual encounters that we can foster. In addition to our panels we held the annual business meeting of our standing group during which we discussed new themes to direct our work and activities, as well as priorities for the forthcoming year.
